The nebula held many secrets, but none as haunting as the ghost ship-a phantom vessel that appeared and disappeared without warning. Admiral Elara Vance had seen it on her sensors, a faint blip that vanished before she could lock on.

"Command, this is Vance. I'm tracking a ghost ship."

"Copy, Vance. Proceed with caution."

She followed the faint energy trail, her sensors straining. The ghost ship was fast, but she was patient.

"There," she said, firing.

Her beams struck the ship, and its cloak flickered, revealing its hull.

"Contact," she said. "I'm engaging."

The ghost ship returned fire, but Elara was faster. She outmaneuvered it and delivered the final blow.

"Command, the ghost ship is destroyed."

"Copy, Vance. Good work. You've eliminated a serious threat."

Elara turned her fighter toward home, the nebula closing in behind her. The enemy had tried to use fear against them, but she had seen through their trick.

She knew there would be more ghost ships, more phantoms. But she was learning to see them, to track them, to destroy them.

The galaxy was a battlefield of shadows, and she was becoming a master of the hunt. She would keep pursuing the ghosts through the nebulae until the enemy had nowhere left to hide. The End.

The base was quiet when they landed, the sun rising over the desert, the war waiting. Captain Elena Vasquez climbed out of her F-35, her legs unsteady, her body aching. Around her, her squadron did the same-exhausted, but alive.

Marcus walked toward her, his flight suit dark with sweat. "You okay?"

She nodded. "Just tired."

They walked toward the command center, their boots heavy on the concrete. Colonel Matthews was waiting, his face grim.

"Casualties?"

"None," Elena said. "The airbase is destroyed."

Matthews nodded, relief flickering across his face. "Good work, Vasquez. Get some rest."

Elena walked toward the barracks, Marcus beside her. They didn't speak. They didn't need to.

At her door, she stopped, turned to face him. "Marcus."

"Yeah?"

"Thank you. For watching my back."

He smiled, a tired, gentle expression. "Always."

She watched him walk away, then entered her room, lay on her bunk, stared at the ceiling. The mission was over. But the war wasn't.

She closed her eyes, and let sleep take her. Tomorrow, they would prepare. Tomorrow, the war would continue.

And Elena Vasquez would be ready. Always ready.
